Nierika is a sacred word in the Huichol (Wixárika) worldview that means "mirror" or "door of vision." It is a symbol that represents the link between the physical world and the spiritual world , a kind of portal through which shamans can see the invisible, communicate with the gods, and receive messages or knowledge.

Nierika can take the form of physical objects, such as discs decorated with yarn or wax, or they can also be present in visions brought on by peyote. In yarn paintings or weavings, a Nierika is often represented as an eye or circle, filled with colors and geometric shapes, and placed in key locations to protect, guide, or bless.

For the Huichol, creating a Nierika is not just art, it's a spiritual offering. Each one contains an intention: it may be to heal, to give thanks, to ask for help, or simply to maintain the balance between humanity and the universe.
